“Shattered” is a literal depiction of ice shattering on a frigid winter day, however, it’s much more than that. It’s also a feeling. I wanted to depict the gut wrenching heartache of feeling emotionally broken. I added metallic silver to catch light, because it’s with light that we grow. Even if it’s as small as an ember. Catch the light.
MATERIALS
I used acrylic paint, metallic silver, gesso, heavy gel, crackle medium, airbrush medium, a China marker, and a palette knife to complete this painting. I sealed the piece with a UV-protective varnish to prevent it from fading, and yellowing, and to add slight shine.
The canvas is premier-professional quality, and the back is a splined finish instead of back-stapled. The wooden structure was kiln-dried to prevent warping, and you can feel the quality by the weight.
I finished the edges in “paynes grey” so that framing is not necessary, but welcome. The back has an hook installed, it has my gallery label, and it is signed.
